TRACING PRESENCE ON LAND (AU, MX, DE)

The trio of Emilio Gordoa, Josten Myburgh & Sabine Vogel. Based between Mexico, Boorloo and Germany, they work experimentally with percussion, saxophone, flutes, electro-acoustic extensions of these instruments, and location recordings.

Their project “Tracing presence on land” is a name for the musical grammar they have built through collective research in the sonic cultures of their birthplaces and homes. Sharing time together in culturally and ecologically rich settings in these places, they imagine music that respects land and origin, and the complex ways this is entangled in their collective sounding. Equally important is the depth of trust and friendship that allows their distinct approaches to gesture & tonality to be held together.

Their collaborations extend over a decade across projects including Splitter Orchester, Mahagonny, Land Stages, and countless improvised collaborations. Having performed as a trio in Germany, 2025 will see them tour internationally together through Aotearoa and Australia.

They will be supported by an improvising trio between Pōneke locals MUMU MOORE (taonga pūoro), NOEL MEEK (multi-instrument) and LUCKY OMEN.

Mumu Moore practices Taonga Pūoro sound meditation and works as a filmmaker. His connection to the Atua - spiritual entities present in nature and everyday life - inspired his journey with sound and meditation. His practice incorporates karakia, the sounds of Taonga Pūoro, and pūrakau (Māori storytelling) to help people access a deeper state of relaxation and spiritual transformation.

Noel Meek is a Pākehā musician, composer and artist whose works explore a form of radical care, where care is applied in new and unusual places, honouring the sovereignty of all things, human and otherwise. His music has been described as “improvisation with an evident state of mantra mind” by Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore.

Lucky Omen is an Ōtepoti-hailing Te Whanganui-a-Tara noise pop musician and flautist who occasionally plays chiptune music under the name 'beet-wix'.
