Techno Echo is a monthly event for Femme & Non-binary music creators to share knowledge around sound & light technology. Featuring special micro performances and demonstrations by local artists/musicians followed by time for kōrero and connection. This month's special guest is Sonya Waters.

Sonya Waters is a solo synth artist playing soundtracks for imaginary Mid-Century films. Her music is underpinned by lush layers of synth orchestration crisscrossed with tessellations of West Coast Moog and vocoder vocals. Semi-modular cutups build into rich textural soundscapes reminiscent of 1960-70s British TV themes, old library music, and the mysterious drones of Folk Horror.

Sonya has performed with different bands and explored several musical pathways over her long career, including ambient music, krautrock project avoid!avoid, alt-country band White Swan Black Swan, indie rock Fang, SF shoe-gaze group Orange, and punk band The Instigators.

Her current work explores the hauntology of synth music, delving into the past to find memories of a future that never existed.
