花溪 Flowerstream with Waterfalls and Body Double

Tāmaki Makaurau genrefluid sonic enchanters 花溪 Flowerstream are a difficult band to define. For the most part they perform live as a guzheng and drums duo, playing many different sets, as part of very different line-ups. Their sometimes punk, sometimes jazz, psychedelic, often experimental, frequently noisy, constantly exploring, heavily improvised, eclectic live sets are a different experience every time you see them.

Their debut Flowers Dream EP, called “an imaginative universe of sound expressed in miniature, like a terrarium of tunes.” by Under The Radar, while very authentically representing them as a group, is a collaborative, multi-instrumental, studio effort largely different (although not always) from their live performances as a duo. Listen here.

This is the last show of their 2024 Aotearoa tour!

Waterfalls is the immersive and verdant avant-pop project of Amber Johnson (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Kahu ki Whangaroa). Melding dreamlike analog synth layers with celestial vocals and luxurious flutes, mesmerising grooves, gently unfurling sonics and beats that shift from sparse to polyrhythmic.

Body Double are the synth/drums duo of Bill Scott (Ritual Heaps) and Emerald Clark (Linen).
