Jake Baxendale presents 8 evening workshops:
Wednesdays 7-9pm
May 11 - June 29.

'Striking Moments' is a participatory improvisation workshop series, born out of Baxendale's MMus research which he completed last year.

At each workshop participants will be guided through ideas and devices for improvising. Jake says the basic idea is that you "improvise until you find an idea you like, then work on that - still improvising, try it lots of ways, record, listen back, reevaluate and then come back to it (or not)." Jake will be diving into the work and writings of improvisers like Lee Konitz, Derek Bailey, Ornette Coleman and others.

A group will be organised to work with for each workshop. It is open to those who would like to participate, but please RSVP to jake.baxendale@gmail.com if you are intending to come along.

Jake Baxendale is an alto saxophonist and composer based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. He performs regularly at venues throughout the city, and has performed extensively overseas.
