Techno Echo is a monthly meet-up for women & gender minorities to learn and share about audio + visual practices and technology. Featuring special micro performances and demonstrations by local artists/musicians followed by time for kōrero and connection. Our second special guest for 2024 is Japes!

Japes is the project of Mia Kelly (she/they), a musician, producer, DJ and broadcaster based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington). They showcase a piece-meal approach to genre, juxtaposing treated guitars, sonic art and deep bass to concoct a thoughtful heady blend. Since releasing their debut EP Junk, Japes has made sparse appearances on local compilations (Strange Behaviour, Works for Loudspeakers) while developing into a live favourite in the capital, supporting Nabihah Iqbal (Ninja Tune) as well as performing at Cuba Dupa and Newtown Festival.

Hosted by Jess, Amber and Lora as part of Pyramid Club’s programme.

UPDATE: Unfortunately due to complications with international travel, tomorrow's planned show with Kawol Samarqandi and Perpets is cancelled. Apologies and fingers crossed they can make it here later in the year! 🤞

Experimental musician Kawol Samarqandi brings his fragile stripped-down guitar and trembling voice improvisations to Pyramid Club, with support from duo Perpets (Antony Milton and Zac Winterwood).
In conjunction with her gig the following day, UK-based folk singer Jennifer Reid presents a weaving workshop.

Korero
A night with Lancashire dialect folk singer and broadside balladress Jennifer Reid, who braids nineteenth-century music with the present:
New fortnightly gig series by Baxter Gray (Swamp Soul). United in vision and colliding noise, pop, and everything in between. The first event is with Slitopia, Elizabeth Sanctuary Welding School for Girls and an improv group featuring Sophia Frankass Frudd, Lucky Omen, Doomburger and Chrissie Butler.
After their appearance at CubaDupa, come see Insula over from Australia, who operates at the intersection of brutal electronics, live violin, and real-time audiovisual systems.
An evening of the anologue soundscapes created by RTS, mangled 21st century classic remix's by DJ Thank U So Much and the electronics, coding and theremin combination by Geist.
