Sound / Movement / Text

What happens when we are invited to communicate without the constraints of (artistic) form or convention & the only expectation is that we remain faithful to our initial response?

In Volume I of Resonances, multi-media performers and improvisers Shannon Xiao & Ruby Brunton will employ sound, movement and poetic text to construct a choreographic dialogue that unfolds in the moment.

Resonances is an irregular performance series that brings together artists of diverse disciplines to explore the collisions & harmonies that emerge from the space between the rehearsed & the spontaneous.

Shannon Xiao’s DJ project bartendESS/bartendERS is a music bartender who migrated her mixing lab from the undergrounds of Shanghai to the rhythms of Te Whanganui-a-Tara. She mixes everyday and archaic energies from actual & digital life to blend a potent cocktail with open-form genres and vocals. Flavored with the harmonic spirits of 箫(xiao), 埙(xun), Pūtōrino, Kōauau, and harmonica, her current set distills resonances from 临时演出 Temporary Show into the improvised dancing scenes of Pōneke.
