The first of two nights of experimental sounds from artists coming to NZ for Camp A Low Hum

Penelope Trappes is a UK-based Australian experimental vocalist and musician creating intimate and sacred soundscapes that focus on minimalism, spaciousness and shadows. Penelope’s fourth album, Heavenly Spheres, released in April 2023 on her own Nite Hive imprint, was composed using just piano, voice and an old reel-to-reel tape deck during a two-week artist residency for Britten Pears Arts at the house where the composer, teacher and musicologist Imogen Holst lived in Aldeburgh, Suffolk UK.

“…a striking work of evolution and deconstruction …Meticulous with fine detail, and trusting of the supernatural forces that elevate it.” - The Wire

“Summoning the great ghosts of vintage 4AD and Kranky, the Australian singer and producer makes inky dream pop that’s as heavy and welcoming as a weighted blanket.” - Philip Sherburne / Pitchfork

Agnes Haus is a Brighton-based audio-visual artist and composer creating synthetic, fractured audioscapes as well as visual work for sound-based artists. Their murky sonic explorations revolve around semi-autonomous analogue sound made entirely with modular synthesizers and in 2023, the album "Sequel' was released on the iconic cassette label Opal Tapes. Visually, Agnes Haus explores creative visuals through video and has shown their work on prestigious screens and stages at Queen Elisabeth Hall, Attenborough Centre for the Arts, EarTH, Dark MOFO Festival, Sonica Festival, among others.

“…spiraling synth tendrils take flight amidst a cloud of celestial drones.” - First Floor

“ There’s a bleakness infused through the whole cassette… This sense of glassy-eyed sinisterism births a feeling there’s an extra presence over your shoulder as something darker permeates the room. ‘Sequel’ sits in a tainted gothic electronic void.”  - Foxy Digitalis

Bone Chapel are an ambient/drone/noise duo based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara creating textural and loosely narrative compositions through samples and synthesis.
