Jake Baxendale and Striking Moments

Entry
$15 presales
Body

As part of the 2022 Wellington Jazz Festival Striking Moments is a participatory improvisation method devised by Jake Baxendale. The premise is simple: to improvise, to strike upon moments of surprise and inspiration, and then strike at them, iterating, recontextualising and generating yet more striking moments. For this concert, Jake will perform pieces created during a series of weekly workshops that ran earlier in the year, joined by a group of the participants and some special guests.

For being and nonbeing

arise together;
hard and easy
complete each other;
high and low
depend on each other;
note and voice
make the music together;
before and after
follow each other.

(Ursula Le Guin: The Tao Te Ching: A Book About the Way and the Power of the Way.)
