Nicole Gaston is a local multi-disciplinary artist working primarily with clay. She recently spent one month as an artist in residence at Driving Creek Pottery in Kapanga (Coromandel).

This exhibition will present a small selection of works created during her residency - part of a broader body of work currently in development - which investigates themes of epistemological decolonisation and identity through sculpture and installation.

Artist Statement:

"I am very fortunate to have been able to take part in the Artist in Residence programme at Driving Creek Pottery over the month of June, 2025", Nicole says. "This opportunity provided me with dedicated time and space to experiment with new ideas and explore different conceptual approaches to my practice."

"I am also very privileged to have been able to experience the manaakitanga of the Driving Creek staff and fellow artists in residence while in Kapanga.  I am excited to continue to develop these ideas and ways of working from my home studio here in Pōneke. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Te Tira Mana Kōkiri o Te Kura o Toi Whakaari for their generous support, without which this residency would not have been possible."

This exhibition will run until 9th November
